Nevşehir Governorship is working to establish a geopark in Cappadocia in order to increase the brand value of the city as well as its international recognition. Governor İnci Sezer Becel said that geomorphological values, which are important in terms of tourism, landscape and landscape, are defined as sustainable development areas and they believe that the geopark to be established in the region will attract worldwide attention.
Explaining that the studies started last year with scientific and technical support from the UNESCO Global Geopark, Kula-Salihli, the first and only UNESCO-labeled geopark in Turkey, Becel said, “We started a study with the idea that the magnificent natural beauties of Cappadocia should be crowned with the geopark. Becel stated that the geopark study will increase the brand value of the region and said: “Göreme National Park was included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List in 1985. We also want to crown the work with the Geopark Museum to be opened in Nevşehir. Work is being carried out on the field. We have a rich structure to be evaluated in this context up to Acıgöl, Derinkuyu and Kozaklı districts. We sent our letter to UNESCO. Our data and files are being prepared. . The files will be sent to UNESCO in September. All stakeholders of the sector that create added value in Nevşehir are willing to bring a new brand to our city.
İsmail Sucu, Member of TURSAB Cappadocia Regional Representative Board, stated that the creation of a geopark is an important initiative in terms of regional tourism. Pointing out that the establishment of a geopark in Cappadocia will contribute to the preservation of natural values ​​and to the development of tourism and to the development of tourism, Sucu said, “With the developing tourism, the duration of stay in our region will be prolonged.
