THE SPIRITUAL CAPITAL OF THE TURKISH WORLD
Turkistan Province is located on the Historical Silk Road route that connects Europe and Asia. Turkestan, which has been the heart of the spiritual, political and commercial life of the Historical Silk Road for centuries, started to revive after Kazakhstan declared its independence in 1991.
Turkistan province gained centralized status with the decision taken by the Founding President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev on 19 June 2018. At the Informal Summit of the Turkic Council Heads of State held on March 31, 2021, he said, “Spiritual Capital of the Turkic World”Status was granted. Turkistan plays a historical role today as the city that unites the Turkic world and its peoples. “Hoca Ahmet Yesevi International Turkish-Kazakh University” is located in this city. Turkistan, where the tomb of Hodja Ahmed Yesevi is located, was given the nickname “Piri Turkistan”.
