The island of Lake Van smelling history: Çarpanak

Çarpanak Island, one of the four large islands in Lake Van, offers a unique beauty with its untouched nature and texture.

Çarpanak Island, which is visited by many local tourists and nature lovers every year, has fallen into silence due to the 17-day full closure implemented within the scope of corona virus measures.
The island, located in the northeastern part of Lake Van, off Çitoren Mahallesi of Tusba district, took on a different beauty with the spring.
The church, which is visited by many local tourists, photographers and nature lovers every year, was destroyed by illegal treasure hunters and lovers.
With the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan published in the Official Gazette on 5 July 2019, 3 of the 4 large islands in Lake Van, which are included in the natural protected area, Akdamar, Çarpanak and Adır islands were declared as “sensitive areas to be protected”.
