The photograph of Lake Van taken from space, which was finalized in the “World Tournament” online photo contest organized by the US Aviation and Space Agency (NASA), caused great excitement in the city.

In the competition initiated by NASA, among 32 photographs, the photograph of Lake Van, taken by Astronaut Kate Rubins on September 12, 2016, and the photograph of the stars in motion on the American Continent, taken by Astronaut Don Pettit in 2012, made it to the finals.
Van Lake, one of the most important values ​​of the region, attracting people with its unique bays, deep blue waters and unspoiled nature, was brought to the agenda in an international competition.
The campaign launched by the people of Van on social media for the first choice of photography broke the record for interaction in a short time and received support from all segments. In addition to First Lady Emine Erdoğan, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s wife, ministers, deputy ministers, governors, parliamentarians, Gendarmerie General Command, Coast Guard Command, Security General Directorate, political party executives, mayors, public institutions and non-governmental organizations representatives in Van. He called for support for the voting of the lake photo.
The voting, which has become the main agenda of the city with its excitement, will end today at 12.00 US local time. The people of Van struggling for the Van Lake photograph to be chosen first by continuing to vote until the last moment of the contest, will wait for the result of the voting with curiosity.
Mehmet Emin Bilmez, the Governor of Van and the Deputy Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality, stated that Lake Van is an important value for the country and the region and repeated his call for support. Emphasizing that the image taken from space shows the fascination of Lake Van and how mysterious it is, Bilmez said, “Being the first of our Lake Van will contribute to the promotion of our province, our region and our country. One of the rare values ​​that should be claimed. “It will contribute to the delivery of the same blue to generations and to the development of tourism.”
Edremit Mayor İsmail Say said that they officially invited Astronaut Kate Rubins, who took the photograph from space, to the city. Reminding that 32 photos were presented to the appreciation of the photo contest initiated by NASA a while ago, Say said:
“One of them was the photo of Lake Van taken from space. This photo reached the quarterfinals, the semi-finals and finally the finals respectively. The voting will end today. Yüzüncü Yıl University, Faculty of Fisheries Dr. Mustafa Akkuş emphasized that Lake Van is one of the most unique ecosystems in the world at an altitude of 1650 meters. Stating that the lake, which contains high amounts of soda and where wonderful visuals were created with the currents in spring and autumn, was brought to the world agenda thanks to the competition, Akkuş continued his words as follows:
“In the photo taken by the astronaut at NASA from space, we can see the currents in the Ercis Bay very clearly. It is not possible to see this in any lake. Because with soda, a whiteness is formed and an incredible visual feast comes out. All cities are in a great race to benefit from ecotourism. Each country spends large amounts of money to advertise the city. the aim to attract more tourists.
