The 5-storey Avdalaz Castle, which is carved into tuff rock in the Phrygian Valley, which has a history of 3 thousand years, draws attention with its architectural structure. While the castle, which is about 30 meters high, is viewed from the air with a drone, it enchants those who see it with its unique beauty.
Located in the Ayazini village of the Phrygian Valley in Afyonkarahisar’s Ihsaniye district, located on the borders of Afyonkarahisar, Eskişehir and Kütahya, Avdalaz Castle attracts great attention from foreign tourists.
It is known that the structure, which is in the form of a rock mass with a cistern with a multi-storey and multi-room structure by carving into tuff rock, is used as a settlement. It is known that the building, which is almost one of the first apartments in history with its multi-storey structure, was used as a castle during the Phrygians period. The building, which is about 30 meters high, is reached from the inside with a ladder. Although it is known as 10 floors, the building consists of 5 floors and many rooms on each floor.
Ayazini Village Headman Bekir Yılmaz, in his statement, stated that the castle is known as a 10-storey apartment building among the public. Yılmaz noted that the castle was used in the Phrygian, Roman and Byzantine periods. Stating that the castle attracts great attention especially by foreign tourists coming to the region, Yılmaz said, “It is a really important work that is worth visiting. It attracts great attention from tourists. Although it is stagnant due to the pandemic, local and foreign tourists come between 200-250 daily. Hopefully, we will promote our village more and attract more tourists. Tourists are surprised to see such a mysterious place in Afyon. “The region is worth seeing with its history, nature and atmosphere.”
