A biological pond was built on an area of 8.5 hectares in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaraş. Mayor of Elbistan, Mehmet Gürbüz, stated that the source of Kaynarca Pond is ground water, and due to this feature, the pond cleans itself without a treatment plant, and said, “Kaynarca Pond is an 8.5 hectare pond and the largest biological pond in the world. We also applied to Guinness regarding the issue,” he said.
In Elbistan, where the Ceyhan River, formed by the water that comes out of the ground by boiling, originates, a pond was built by the municipality after 2 years of work.
Kaynarca Pond, which is 8.5 hectares in size, built in Kaynarca location, one of the sources of the Ceyhan River, and takes its name from here, is self-cleaning because its source is the water that comes out by boiling under the ground.
Elbistan Mayor Mehmet Gürbüz said that the pond is a biological pond because of this feature. Gürbüz stated that the pond, which can be bathed in and where recreational activities continue, is the largest biological pond in the world. Explaining that they applied to Guinness in this respect, Gürbüz said:
“Kaynarca Pond is an 8.5-hectare pond. It is currently being studied as the world’s largest biological pond. We have also applied to Guinness regarding this issue. I think they have a referee process, it is under review. The pond produces its own water, without any treatment. It also does its own cleaning because it boils. You can also swim here, we designed its surroundings accordingly. The world’s largest pool is in a holiday village in Chile and it is 8 hectares in size. We have passed it by arranging an area of 8.5 hectares. In Elbistan “The existence of such a biological pond is very valuable, very meaningful in terms of providing some opportunities for water sports and providing a life comfort to our people. With Guinness’s registration of this, we will introduce our pond to the whole world.”
