The number of buffaloes in Tokat, which are less expensive and more productive than cows, has increased by 5 profits in 10 years within the scope of the project “Buffalo breeding in the hands of the people”. The moments when the buffaloes, which are among the important livelihoods of the village, rush to the water, did not look like the documentary footage shot in Africa.

The buffaloes raised in Çiftlik village in Tokat’s Pazar district are among the important livelihoods of the local people. Nearly a thousand buffaloes are raised in the village, which provides an important input to the region.
The buffaloes grazing in the pasture near Kaz Lake spend most of the day in water. The buffaloes, which turned into their stables after grazing on the pasture, created images that are just like documentaries. The moment of running about 400 buffaloes into the water did not look like the documentary footage shot in Africa.
Head of the Breeding Buffalo Breeders Association Muzaffer Keser said that the buffaloes grazing on the pasture were cleaned by taking a bath on the way back to the barn.
Keser said, “Water buffaloes spread from the village to the pasture in the morning. At noon, they enter the water and sunbathe. Our animals, passing through the water channel on the return to the village, almost take a bath. Like the buffaloes we watch on TV, the buffaloes shoot themselves in the water. They are cleaning up and returning to their stables, ”he said.
With the “Buffalo Breeding Project in the hands of the people” of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the number of buffaloes in the village increased from 200 to thousand in 10 years. More than half of the 70 households in the village, which has the highest amount of water buffaloes throughout the province, earn their living from water buffaloes. Muzaffer Keser, Head of the Breeding Water Buffalo Breeders Association, noted that when water buffalo breeding was about to come to an end, it was revived thanks to the project.
Keser stated that the number of buffaloes continued to increase with the project they carried out with Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University and the support of the ministry, and said, “Water buffalo breeding in our village was about to end. “The number of water buffaloes in our village increased from 200 to thousand in about 10 years. The number of water buffaloes increased with the support provided by our Ministry.”
Stating that the buffalo is a less expensive and productive animal species compared to the cow, Besici Ali Broad said, “The milk of the buffalo is 10 liras per kilo, the milk of a cow is 2 lira. For him, buffalo is more profitable for us. There is a difference of 8 liras. The demand for the milk and yogurt of the buffalo is quite high. They order from Sivas and neighboring provinces. We cannot keep up with the orders, ”he said.
